VSPA expands, offers additional services

The River Valley is a beautiful place to live, even more so now with the recent expansion of VSPA, formerly known as Valley Laser Cosmetics, 2300 West Main Shopping Center. The business, which opened originally in June 2003 in another location on West Main, relocated to the West Main Shopping Center in October 2004. Services offered at that time included laser cosmetic procedures, hair removal, spider vein treatment and enhanced skin rejuvenation.

The addition of permanent cosmetic services necessitated the need for further expansion so when additional space became available next door, owner Sandy Kremp made the move to Suite 8.

The recently remodeled space includes rooms dedicated to specific procedures such as laser treatment, makeup application and permanent cosmetic application.

In order to apply permanent cosmetics, one must be licensed by the State of Arkansas Health Department, the organization which regulates both the site and the individual personnel. The location is also inspected a minimum of every two years by a representative from the State Health Department.

Kremp, a registered nurse and licensed esthetician, is a member of the Association of Medical Esthetic Nurses. She was nationally certified for the use of Botox and Dermal Fillers in June 2005 and earned certification through the Esthetic Skin Institute, Inc. She is working toward additional accreditation as medical esthetics is under the process of achieving national recognition as a medical specialty. The first specialty accreditation testing will be held this October in Las Vegas and Kremp plans to be ready.

VSPA’s medical director is Richard Kremp, M.D., who set-up and signed-off on the protocols used at VSPA. He reviews, authorizes and signs off on all procedures on a daily basis. The estheticians are in daily communication with him via internet and phone, said Sandy Kremp.

The medspa recently hired two new licensed estheticians, Candace Harris and Angie Newman. The pair is licensed to perform chemical peels, microdermabrasion, skin analysis, custom facials, waxing and professional makeup application. They can recommend and customize a skin care regime to suite each individual’s needs, added Kremp. All information on client procedure is held in strictest confidence, she stressed.

All the medspa’s estheticians are licensed or certified to perform the services they practice, stressed Kremp. To be considered for employment at VSPA, employees must meet certain criteria and licensing. Every procedure performed at the medspa has been thoroughly researched, Kremp said. “That’s why we say ‘The Truth and Science of Beauty” when referring to our products and services.

The location also features a room dedicated specifically to the application of makeup, said Kemp. Makeup artist MyRya Hunnicutt traveled to Burbank, Calif., last summer to train at the Westmore Academy of Cosmetic Arts. There she received instruction on the application of airbrush makeup and bridal emphasis. For special occasions such as prom, pageants or weddings, call for an appointment or free consultation. VSPA carries a full line of Elite Mineral Makeup.

VSPA carries three different pharmaceutical grade skin care line, explained Kremp. These differ greatly from over-the-counter (OTC) retail skin care lines, which are regulated by FDA laws and cannot contain products strong enough or with the right amount of product to affect live tissue.

Free consultations for all of the services offered are available by calling the medspa. (A special for the month of May includes $30 off the application of permanent eyeliner or eyebrows when mentioning ABOUT Magazine. See page 31 for details!)

A grand reopening and Open House, planned for May 4-5, will feature mini-makeovers and skin analysis and offer a chance to meet representatives from Colorescience and Skinceuticals. The facility is open regularly Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers extended hours on evenings and Saturdays by appointment.

The medspa maintains an email list for those wishing to receive special offers or current information. For more information, or to be added to their email list, call VSPA at (479) 890-6773 or go online and visit their website at vspamedspa.com.

For a tour of their new facilities, the public is invited to come by VSPA, 2300 West Main Shopping Center Suite 8.
